HVAC technician safety overview
At a high level, HVAC roles mean installing and servicing heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, working with electricity, pressurised systems and refrigerants, and reaching plant in roofs, ducts and confined areas. Typical concerns include electrical contact, refrigerant exposure, burns, work at height, confined spaces and manual handling.

- PPE is a last line of defence — it does not replace isolation, ventilation, training or supervision.
Training and competence
Role-specific instruction and any electrical, refrigerant-handling, height or confined-space training an HVAC technician needs are the employer’s responsibility and, where applicable, required by law.
